Registration Fees

The Nova Scotia Second Chances Band Program is funded entirely through our membership fees.  These fees are vital and are used to cover the cost of instruction, the purchase of new music and its distribution to the players, the purchase of new equipment, advertising expenses, insurance costs and the rental of both our practice and performance spaces.

Membership fees for SUMMER 2024 are as follows:

Remember:
Symphonic & Intermediate Bands – full summer season
Jazz Band, Combos, Singers: Intro to Sight Singing – 8 week session

  • $175 – First Ensemble (full summer session)
  • $90 – for each additional ensemble (full summer session)
  • $90 – First Ensemble (8 week session)
  • $50 – for each additional ensemble (8 week session)
  • $50 – student fee for any ensemble(s)

This year, the Summer Season will consist of either 8 OR 15 weeks of instruction/rehearsal depending on which programs you wish to participate in. Both the Intermediate and Symphonic Bands will include a number of public performance opportunities. Please make every effort to ensure registration fees are paid by the end of your third rehearsal in attendance.

Additional Costs

1.  The First Beginner Band Session – anyone interested in participating in our beginner program will be required to purchase a band method book that will be used each week during our rehearsals. For most instruments, this book would likely cost between $10.00 and $20.00 plus tax.

2. Musical Instrument – the Second Chances Band Program does not provide instruments for players to use. If a participant does not already own their instrument, it is suggested that they consider renting an instrument from Long & McQuade.

3. Music Stand – the Second Chances Band Program does not provide music stands for participants. It is the responsibility of the participant to acquire a music stand that can be brought to rehearsals each week.

Cancellation of Rehearsals

If a practice must be cancelled due to bad weather or other unexpected reason, an announcement regarding the cancellation will be sent to the membership by e-mail no later than 4:30pm on the day of cancellation.  Every effort will be made to make up the rehearsal before the end of the season.
