  • We will have guest players this evening, so I would like to run through the concert pieces for Saturday in the first half
  • The Big Three – read through, clean up any remaining issues
  • Louie, Louie – read through, we might have a full percussion section… this will make a difference to the sound, but needs a bit of attention to “put it all together”, attention to rhythm here
  • Song for Friends – read through, intonation and tone discussion, cleaning up any remaining issues

NOTE: in an effort to cut down on the repertoire we need to rehearse during the remainder of this season for both the music festival and the spring concert, we will be cutting It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing) from the repertoire list.  We will re-visit this piece in the future… don’t worry!

  • Warm Up:  F Concert Scale Study Sheet, then first attempt at a random major scale
  • Sound Innovations book, starting at Exercise #96 Technique Line 1 (if your book doesn’t have these included, then just focus your practice on continuing on from here as per normal)… we will continue in the book for the first hour of rehearsal
  • The Big Three – read through each individual section again, we will be focusing on making sure both notes and rhythms are accurate for each group now. It is time to start adding/focusing on musicality within this piece now.
  • Creepy Crawlies – read through
  • Louie, Louie – will begin to work on solo section together as a group, read through and cleaning up any remaining issues / challenges

Halifax Community Band Festival

Also, don’t forget about our very own Halifax Community Band Festival being held at Mount Saint Vincent University on May 25th through 27th 2018! This is the weekend we host players from various different community bands from all over the Maritime provinces for a fellowship of music making and networking. FEES for September:
In September, each member of the Second Chances Beginner Band will be asked for the fall season’s registration fee. After a few weeks, they will also be asked to acquire a band method book that will be used in class.

$150  registration fee (1st group)
$75  registration fee for any additional ensemble
$30  cost of Sound Innovations Method Book ($38 for combined percussion book)

Halifax Community Band Festival
Don’t forget about our very own Halifax Community Band Festival being held at St. Mary’s University on May 26th through 28th 2017! This is the weekend to host players from various different community bands from all over the Maritime provinces for a fellowship of music making and networking. Make sure you mark it on your calendar! Its a great chance to learn from great guest conductors and meet new friends who love to play as well!
